The life and teachings of Babaji are here in pictures, videos, and correspondence. This section contains his accomplishments as an author, artist, and master yogi who meaningfully brought the ancient teachings to contemporary students.
Baba Hari Dass (Babaji as his students affectionately called him) was a living example of the kind heart, open mind, and productive life that the wisdom teachings of yoga and Ayurveda foster. ( yoga: योग ; āyurveda: आयुर्वेद ) His lifelong example of peacefulness encourages regular practice of his teachings. Babaji also inspired the founding of Mount Madonna Center, Mount Madonna Institute, and Mount Madonna School (PK-12th grade) in the United States; Salt Spring Centre of Yoga, and Children's School in Canada; and Sri Ram Orphanage and School in India.
Babaji took a vow of silence in 1953. He taught using a small chalkboard enabling transcription of the interchange. He consistently taught 4 times a week for many decades until his health was impaired in 2013 by a series of strokes.
The Library Staff is grateful to the many scribes who took contemporaneous notes during the many question and answer periods; to the chalkboard readers who gave voice to his wisdom and to the typists who transcribed those notes into readable text. None of them have been named or identified following Library Privacy policies. Our gratitude is boundless.
